How to know which brake pads need to be changed or replaced?

Vehicles need pampering and maintenance. One of the important parts of a vehicle that has to be regularly checked upon is the brake pads. Brakes are an essential component of cars that are part of its basic operation. Your brakes are not something that you can think about taking a risk with and any signs of them wearing out mean that you have to immediately get them replaced or repaired. Delaying these things is the last thing you must resort to under any circumstances as it is a matter of your personal safety.

Detecting when to replace your brake pads can be more of a problem when you are not a trained mechanic. It can be quite hard to decide when exactly your brake pads need to be replaced. There are some tell tale signs that you can follow to find this out. Some of them are:

  • Brakes that squeal
  • Brakes that grind
  • Brake pedals that require pumping for stopping your car
  • The car being pulled from side to side
  • Grabbing of the wheel
  • The brake pedal having a hard and sudden action. On/off.
  • Spongy pedals

As your brake pads near their end time, the distance that your car goes before halting to a stop will increase dramatically. This will increase the risks of you meeting with an accident, one that could prove to be fatal. This is why it is important to identify the time when your brake place need.

Some of these signs like sounds could also simply just mean that your brake pads are worn out or that the surface is getting hardened or needs to be cleaned. But some of these noises could be indicators of more serious underlying problems; problems with brake discs or brake calipers. These need inspection by a trained mechanic so make a booking at your garage.

At times, you will also feel that the sensation your brake pedals transmit might seem different upon being depressed. This too means that your car needs a mechanic in the near future. Such feelings include vibrating, juddering and pulsating or spongy feelings. Such problems need immediate attention and possible repair. If you experience any of the above mentioned symptoms in your car, then you should take it to a mechanic to get your brake pads replaced immediately.
